My Favorite shoes & Dog waste – not a good combination – at all!!

I walk my dog a lot and in my neighborhood, people expect you to pick up after your dogs.  Aside from the mild grossness, this isn’t so bad.  I was walking Holly sometime after dark when she decided it was time to do her business, right in someone’s yard of course!

This isn’t unusual or anything, considering my neighborhood pretty much consists of yards and houses back to back, smooshed together.  But what is unusual is when the people who own the yard actually decide to pull up in the driveway, while your dog is squatting next to their mailbox!!

It was a little awkward to say the least. They were very nice, and said hi to me, and I explained to them I was going to pick up after Holly, and they were very appreciative. Well, she finally finished, and I bent pick up after her, but the poop was nowhere to be found.

So I then proceeded to walk around their yard using the light of my cell phone to try and find it. The woman even got back in her car and turned on the headlights to help me look.  This went on for several minutes, me bent over in these people’s yard, poop bag, cell phone, and dog in hand, Holly sitting there impatiently, and the nice woman, trying to help me find the pile.

Well, eventually I found it.  But only after I stepped in it.  With my favorite shoes on, of course!!

I stood up, told her that I got it (she didn’t notice just HOW I actually found it) and tried to pick up whatever leftovers that weren’t stuck on the bottom of my shoe.  I walked all the way home dragging my foot, to try and scrape the remnants off of the bottom of my shoe!!

This was definitely one of the more awkward moments of my life!  However, I still love Holly more than anything!

Hand Warmers for Boots? Maybe NOT!

Tennessee winters are cold, so those one dollar hand warmers come in handy when you can see your breath outside.

My birthday is in January, and last year my puppy, Holly, who is a Yellow Lab and Chow mix, was my present.  She was all mine (still is) so that means that I was the one who fed her, walked her, played with her, and at the time, potty trained her.

Anyone who has ever potty trained a puppy knows that it takes a lot of work and that you pretty much have to take them outside every hour.  In the summertime, this would not have been so bad, but in January, in Tennessee, it was a little chilly to say the least.

Every time before we went outside, I would have to hurry up and pull on my coat, an extra hoodie, pair of pants, shirt, wow another shirt, socks (Really?? – I LOVE flip flops) and some boots.  Well, back to those one dollar hand warmers, I would always shove a pair of those down in the toe of my boots!

They did the job, and kept my toes from falling off (hee hee).  Then one night (out of the many) my Holly had to go out in the wee hours of the morning (really really really REALLY cold)!  So…. I had to feel around in the dark for a jacket, extra shirt, another shirt, hoodie, blanket, shorts, bra – I WAS half asleep  :  ) and my INFAMOUS boots!

Holly was whining and snorting AND doing the pee pee dance, so I didn’t have time for SOCKS!!  So when I pulled on my boots, I discovered that both of those one dollar hand warmers had exploded!!  (Well, maybe not exploded but, at least fallen apart……that just doesn’t sound as dramatic).

However, I still had to run outside with Holly anyway, so my toes were squishing around in the debris of the deceased hand warmers.  BTW – This was worse than worms in tennis shoes.  Not that I would know, actually….. just thought it sounded good!  AnyHOO…My toes and I were NOT very warm that night!!

When I got back in and took off my boots, my feet were covered in this black soot-looking-squishy substance, and of course freezing!!  Further, this was a very sad, sad moment, :  ( as I had to commit a devastating act of shoe abuse!  They HAD to be thrown AWAY – no survival of any sort!!

So the moral of this story is that hand warmers are useful, but use with EXTREME caution.  And if you put them in your shoes, PLEASE sandwich them between a pairs of socks instead of sticking them right in your shoe.

Oh, and if you get a puppy, or dog, or pet, or anything that must go out at ALL – when the weather is cold enough to numb your fingers, keep a set of warm clothes right by the door, so you don’t have to scramble when you’re putting on your extra layers. This comes in handy for those I-gotta-go-outside-right-now moments!!

Don’t Wear White @ Disney Parks!!!

OK..so this was so cool & funny..but not really..well maybe….

We all laugh about it NOW!  We were so in the “Happiest Place on Earth”.  HOWEVER..  The only thing worst than birdstuff in your left eye is Orange on WHITE!!

We were in MGM (now Hollywood Studios) in Disney World, right by the “Stars Tours” ride.  I had a major righteous big cup of Fanta Orange soda.  I was about eight years old at the time.  My parents and grandparents and I (my brother wasn’t born yet, BTW those were the good ‘ole days) were taking a lunch break from all the rides.

My mom, Wendy was next to me, and wearing white tennis shoes, white shorts, white shirt, white bra  :  ), white socks & even a white scrunchie.  Can you see where this is going?  Eight year old me, big orange soda, stepmom wearing brand new white shoes, etc…etc..etc….

One minute I was standing there, soda in hand, and the next thing I know, there seems to be some kind of miraculous orange soda explosion going on!!!!   I must have dropped it, or it slipped out of my hand or something!  (Well, considering I was the only one drinking orange soda at the time.)  You know, it WAS a big cup, and I was a tiny little kid back then – it REALLY was an accident!!!

I looked over at W/mom and everyone else, and it must have been through some strange phenomenon , but she was the only one that got hit by the massive but VERY orange (did I say ORANGE) spray!!!!

She was covered (so awesomely HEE HEE) in orange from head to toe.  Should I remind you that she was wearing white that day?  Not to mention she does have blonde hair too!  It was then that I noticed that there was another minor (Maybe MAJOR) explosion about to occur.

I could see the color rising in Wendy’s face just like it does in cartoons or maybe when lobsters are cooked?   She was like an unfinished rainbow of white, red and bright orange!!!

This was definitely, positively, withoutadoubt going to be an all out eruption (most definitely & surely worse than “Dante’s Peak”).  I swear, I could see smoke coming out of her ears. To this day, she still thinks I did it on purpose.

Maybe?  Maybe not…To be…or not to be….YEAH whatever…LOL

Blew out my flip flop!!

Good evening..

This is so cool being to write whenever you want!  We just watched the CMAs & it was awesome!  However, we could really not choose!  There were so many that are really so wonderful.  ”SHUT UP” was a constant comment.  I always get accused of commentary “like Grandaddy” & please DON’T TALK!!!  Can’t help it!! :  )

AnyHOO….OK…so I know everyone has their favorite flip flops.   Mine are like the cheapest & the $10 sunglasses that just don’t break!!!

HOWEVER…have you ever been walking around when your flip flop just suddenly explodes?  It’s usually your favorite pair, the one you wear the most often. And it usually happens in front of a ton of people who are watching, and of course you almost fall flat on your face!

I know it’s happened to me plenty of times.  It happened to me once in high school (actually a few times) right in the middle of the hallway.  I never usually carry around an extra pair of shoes, so I was stuck with one good flip flop, and one defective one.

I had to prepare myself for a day of either walking around half way barefooted or like LMFAO says “Party Rock Anthem — Shuffling”  around and using my one bad shoe as sort of a ski – not cool BTW.

But, of all people, my cosmetology teacher came to the rescue. She used duct tape (YEAH!!)  to fix my faulty flip flop back together for me. Not to mention, duct “duck” tape has become VERY popular – why I don’t know – but Tyler LOVES it!!

Truly, I think about that every time I have a shoe incident, which happens quite often actually. Thank you Ms. Butler!

Coffee Before Shoes!!

Have you ever had one of those days?  Although I am not very coordinated & have been accused of tripping on air, I can usually get dressed correctly.  Today was one of those days that I just don’t pride myself on.

I was in the bathroom.  I was checking my reflection before I headed to my last class of the day. It had been a long day, and I was ready to get home. I looked alright, not bad for a Monday.  As I was looking in the mirror I noticed something peculiar.  Something a little out of place-just not quite right.

I was wearing two different shoes!  Yes, that’s right.

Two!  Different!  Shoes!  Seriously?  To make matters even worse & more embarrassing, it was the end of the day.  I’d been walking around like this for hours!!!

 

 

 

The only comfort was at least they were both flip flops.  I guess it could have been worse.  I sent a text to my mom as I knew it would make HER laugh!

After a few moments of laughing hysterically.  I thought – you could’ve walked out with one of your slippers on and one flip flop or something, or even worse, a boot and pump!

Although I have to admit, I wasn’t surprised.  I’ve been known to notice half way through the day that my shirt is on backwards or that half of the hair in my pony tail is hanging out.

I do believe I’m starting to see a trend here. I know I’m not a morning person but maybe I should start actually looking at the clothes I put on instead of just throwing on whatever seems right at the time?

You know that saying “Did he/she even look at a mirror before leaving this morning?”.

Maybe I should start drinking coffee, or those five hour energy things.  Or maybe not.  I don’t get along well with caffeine, its bad enough I trip on air!

Hey, at least I have some comfort in knowing that I probably made someone’s day a little brighter.

What do you do when your “dismissed” from all that you knew? Turn to your shoes!

When I was “dismissed” from my career (position eliminated) last Spring, after 18 years in the business – it was devastating to say the least!  I was lost & didn’t know how to even approach another job in my industry.  Also, I wasn’t quite sure anymore what I wanted to be when I grew up!  

While being a “Summer/Baseball/Soccer/Swim” Mom to my 8 year old son was absolutely awesome – I knew I would need to do something else to maintain both MY sanity & our lifestyle.  

After ALOT of research, bad advise, trial & error, and continous rejection from interviewing (I even made it to the 3rd & 4th interviews severval times), I decided to go for the “American Dream” & open my own business.  

Of course, I had the back-up of family & friends, and alot of prayer to encourage me!  That is the most important reason of all.

I decided to focus on the internet & enlisted my daughter to help.  She is almost 21 & in college(not working either – we promised we paid for her college if she maintained an “A” average  :  ) which she is).  I am 43 – what could be more cool than our 2 generations for a unnatural desire to obtain the largest shoe collection ever.  By the way we are well on our way & can wear some of the same shoes (always a plus)!

I am more obsessed than her, however, she still gets that “look” when we get together at DSW!  First rule of shoes:  A girl’s gotta shop!!!

Sometimes you have a pair of shoes so adorable that you base your entire outfit solely on those shoes.  I think there are alot of people with an unatural, or let’s just say OBSESSION with shoes!

Just like that outfit is based completely on our favorite pair of shoes, so is this blog!

I am looking forward to this & how it is helping me bond with my daughter.  I look forward to any & all comments from friends, family, new friends & the totally obsessed – just like us!
